Roulette is one of the most traditional casino games & online bettors in Delaware know there’s more to it than the glitzy atmosphere of watching the silver ball glisten as it spins around the Online Roulette wheel. Fortunately, the rules & variations of Online Roulette outlined below are basic, allowing for the development of a winning online gambling strategy.

 How to Play Roulette

Much like in a land-based casino, Online Roulette has an established procedure for each game:

  • Place your bet on the table in Roulette Online.
  • Choose how much you want to wager on each spin of the wheel & drop of the ball by clicking on the different domination chips in your browser window.
  • Click on the bet size you wish to wager.
  • Having chosen your bet size, press the spin button.
  • The Roulette wheel begins to spin and after circumnavigating the wheel a number of times, the virtual ball will then fall into a slot on the wheel. (In Live Dealer Roulette versions, an in-house live dealer will spin and drop the ball just as in a land-based casino).
  • Which pocket or ‘slot’ in which the ball stops will decide if your bet has won or has lost.

Betting Options

  • Color Bets – also known as black or red bets. Wager that the ball will come to rest on a red or a black number. In Delaware, online casinos offer American Roulette only – odds of winning on a color bet are 47.37%. All odds below refer to American Roulette only for those playing in the state of Delaware.
  • High / Low Bet – A high bet is on numbers between 19 and 36, whilst a low bet is on numbers between 1 and 18. Odds are identical to a color bet
  • Even/Odd – Place your wager on the ball coming to rest on an even or odd number – the same odds as both bet types above.
  • Dozen Bet– Covers the ball landing between 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. Odds of winning are 32.4%.
  • Column Bet – At odds of 31.6%, the Column Bet is a wager on where the ball lands in the 3 columns of numbers.
  • Line Bet– At 15.8% winning odds, a line bet made covers two rows of three numbers. For example, 7-12 or 31-36.
  • 5 Bet – A bet on a combination of 5 numbers gives you a 13.2% opportunity of becoming a winner.
  • Corner Bet – Wager on any four adjoining numbers in a block (1, 2, 4, 5 or 17, 18, 20, 21, etc.) at odds a shade under 13%.
  • Street Bet – Bet on any three numbers horizontal (1, 2, 3 or 4, 5, 6, etc.) at payout odds of 10%.
  • Split Bet – Wager on any two adjoining numbers vertical or horizontal at odds of slightly less than 6%.
  • Straight Up – Bet on any single number at odds of 37 to 1, but be aware, many casinos only pay out at 35 to 1.
  • 0 or 00 – Bet on the ball to rest on either 0 or 00 and receive a cool 35 to 1.

Table Layout

The Roulette table (online or in a bricks-and-mortar casino is much the same across all roulette variations. American Roulette (as played online in Delaware) has one more field than most the double zero. Both American and French Roulette clearly show inside and outside bets, and the numbers are correspondingly colored to the pockets on the wheel. Less seen online, French Roulette has a slightly different layout and also displays the bet names in French. These cosmetic differences do not impact the house edge. Check out the three major types of roulette table layouts below

Roulette Table Layout

The Roulette Wheel

Familiarizing yourself with the layouts of the Roulette wheels above will assist you in developing better understanding of Online Roulette and help you become better at the game.

The sequence of numbers is carefully designed in a deliberate style:

  • Designed to confuse. Don’t allow that. Knowledge is power.
  • Black and Red Numbers always alternate. No matter the type of wheel, two adjacent pockets should always have different colours.
  • Low (1-18) and High (19-36) numbers usually alternate in European Roulette as do odd and even numbers.
  • The American wheel (as used online in Delaware) is not as organised & there are many low and high numbers that are adjacent to each other.

What Types of Roulette Can I Play in Delaware

As discussed above, only American Roulette is available online for play in Delaware, but other Roulette games may soon come to the First State to keep pace with those games offered in nearby states;

American Roulette

Found in all of Delaware’s 3 online casinos, American Roulette has only one major difference to European Roulette – the Roulette wheel has both a 0 and a 00 slot, raising the house edge to 5.26%.

European Roulette

Not yet found available online in Delaware, but a staple in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the European rRulette wheel has only a single 0, rather than a single 0 and a double 00, meaning that a lower house edge at only 2.63%.

French Roulette

More common in illegal offshore casinos, French Roulette features Bet names on the table in French, and several unique bets like the “half-black” or “en prison” rules reducing the house edge to 1.35%.

Mini Roulette

A favorite among online players elsewhere, Mini Roulette features fewer numbers to wager on (only 12), better odds and a decreased number of betting options.

Multi Ball Roulette

Each ball (all balls are dropped at once) added to Multi Ball Roulette can be bet on. Every wager is considered to be a separate bet and used to multiply payout figures and thereby reduces the house edge as much as possible while producing dynamic game play.

Multi Wheel Roulette

Play Roulette on up to 8 wheels simultaneously in Multi Wheel Roulette. Online Players may choose how many wheels they wish to wager on in each round.

Live Dealer Roulette

Not yet available in Delaware, Online Casino Live Dealer Roulette is a more dynamic experience to static online roulette play. Experience the atmosphere of a Vegas-style bricks-and-mortar casino while playing from the comfort of your favorite sofa or on-the-go. Live Dealer Online Roulette players are involved in an interactive experience placing their live game bets with a real roulette table, wheel and dealer standing in a real casino or studio via a high-quality live streamed video link.

Roulette Strategy

Employing a strategy will increase your winning possibility and enjoyment in Online Roulette.

Irrespective of the system you use, remember, the odds are never totally in your favor. Simple rule – only play with money you can afford to lose.

A great strategy is to make many smaller bets instead of fewer large ones. Put simply, the longer your bankroll survives, the more chances you have to win. The best way to win more often, is to play more often.

Other systems lower the edge further in your favour over the long term including;

Martingale System

  • Double bets until you win.
  • At its best on outside bets (48.6% probability)
  • Can result in large losses if you don’t have a large bankroll to wait for wins.

Labouchère System

  • The Labouchere is a strategy devised to work with even bets – Red/Black, Even/Odd, and 1-18/19-36 – something with around 50% success chance.
  • A complicated system of splitting up your desired bet amounts & winnings into a sequence of wagers.

D’Alembert System

  • The Martingale system’s ‘lite’ version.
  • Choose a set amount for each wager, for example $1.
  • Each time you lose, add $1 to your set amount.
  • After every win, return to betting your original set bet amount.

James Bond Strategy

  • Designed to cut risks.
  • For example, with the James Bond Strategy, betting $100, bet $55 on high numbers, $40 on the first 1/3and $5 on zero for insurance.

This means 31 of 37 numbers are covered, creating an 83.7% win chance.
